Toll charge to increase in two stages from 2026

The toll charge payable in proportion to the distance travelled for the road use by vehicles with a maximum authorised total mass of over 3.5 tonnes will increase in two stages, from 1 January and 1 March next year, by an overall increase less than previously announced.

Decree No. 46/2025 (XII. 23.) ÉKM of the Minister of Construction and Transport on the amendment of certain ministerial decrees on toll payment has been published, based on which the basic rate of the infrastructure charge, which is a component of the toll, applicable from 1 January 2026 for main roads for certain vehicle categories was revised in Decree No. 25/2013 (V. 31.) NFM of the Minister of National Development on toll rates and toll roads.

According to the amending provision, the toll charge payable in proportion to the distance travelled for the road use by vehicles with a maximum authorised total mass of over 3.5 tonnes will increase in two stages in 2026, different from and to a lesser extent than the charge announced on 30 November 2025: from 1 January, by 4.3 percent in line with inflation, followed by a further increase from 1 March, bringing the total increase to 35 percent compared to the 2025 toll.

The toll charges payable in proportion to the distance travelled, valid from 1 January 2026 are available on our website at Toll Rates.

The toll calculator is now available

The toll calculator can be used again and it is also available on the website of the National Toll Payment Services Plc. (NTPS Plc.) in Hungarian and English at utdijkalkulacio.hu.

With the updated version of the toll calculator, carriers can calculate the toll they will expectedly be required to pay on the routes they use from 1 January 2026. For planning the rates, the value valid from 1 January 2026 should be selected in the Validity of Toll Rates field. As soon as it is possible to plan with the fees applicable from 1 March 2026, we shall inform our customers on our websites toll-charge.hu and hu-go.hu.

The toll calculator helps determine the approximate toll for vehicles exceeding the maximum authorised total mass of 3.5 tonnes on toll roads. The interface always plans the fastest routes, i.e. the shortest routes based on travel time. In general, it offers several alternatives, for each of which it calculates the expected toll to be paid, which is displayed for the currently active route on the map, broken down into infrastructure charges and externality charges. The fees calculated by the toll calculator are at all times indicative.

The 3-hour fine alert has also been launched

The service of NTPS Plc. will notify the requesting carrier within 3 hours if our company's control system suspects unauthorised road use by the tolled motor vehicle. The free-of-charge convenience function will operate accordingly from 29 December 2025.

The aim of the service is to protect carriers making a mistake in good faith and to prevent the accumulation of toll fines.
