Information on changes to the e-toll system effective from 1 May 2026

In the e-toll system used by vehicles with a maximum authorised total mass of over 3.5 tonnes, the validity period of route tickets will change from the current 120 minutes to 300 minutes. As before, route tickets entitle you to use the toll road network only after successful payment and confirmation. Confirmation means the information displayed about the success of the transaction after redirection to the hu-go.hu site.

Also from 1 May 2026, the rules on the exemption from toll payment for motor vehicles operated by farmers will change. The scope of farmers and the agricultural products for the transport of which farmers may request the issuance of an official certificate entitling them to obtain a toll-free route ticket will be extended. The possibility to purchase a toll-free route ticket is also available for the transport of live animals from that date. Detailed information on the exemption for farmers is available here.

From 1 May 2026, it is possible for the operators of tolled motor vehicles to be exempted from paying an administrative fine imposed for incorrectly declared toll and environmental categories if they subsequently pay to the toll charger the difference between the toll according to the actual toll and environmental category of the vehicle and the toll paid and provide proof of this to the authority (police) imposing the toll fine. The possibility for exemption may be used once in 60 days. Detailed information on the procedure for the subsequent payment of the toll difference for the purpose of exemption from the toll fine is available here.

Please note that subsequent exemption from fines and the toll exemption granted to carriers transporting agricultural products are provided for by an emergency government decree. Therefore, they may only be applied during the period of the declared state of emergency, for as long as Government Decree No. 424/2022 (X. 28.) on the declaration of a state of emergency and certain emergency rules in view of the armed conflict and humanitarian disaster in Ukraine and in order to avert and manage the consequences of such situations in Hungary, remains in force – currently until 14 May 2026.
