Changes in toll payment

Decree 196/2024 (VII. 8.) Korm. of the Government amending Decree 209/2013 (VI. 18.) Korm. of the Government on the implementation of Act LXVII of 2013 on distance-based tolls payable for the use of motorways, expressways and main roads was published in the Hungarian Official Journal.

According to the amending decree, the rule that the infrastructure charge element of the electronic toll to be paid in proportion to the distance travelled will enter into force as of 1 September 2024, and will be subject to inflation from 1 January 2025. Accordingly, if the consumer price index for August in the year preceding the relevant year aspublished by the Central Statistical Office increases relative to August of the second year preceding the relevant year, the basic rate of the infrastructure charge shall be adjusted at a rate corresponding to such increase – in accordance with the mathematical rounding rules – to two decimal places, with effect from the first day of the relevant year.

The amendment also affects the validity of Route tickets: As of 1 February 2025, the Route ticket will be valid for a period of 120 minutes counted from the time of purchase.
